Yakasai Don Accuses Kano Government of Blocking ADC Campaign Billboards

Prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) member, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, don accuse the Kano State Government of preventing the opposition party from putting up campaign billboards across the state.

Yakasai make the allegation in a statement wey e shared on Facebook on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

According to am, the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf don restrict ADC from using billboards to promote the party’s political activities across Kano State.

The Kano State Government had previously introduced regulations for outdoor advertising and political posters. For June 2023, the government announced restrictions on indiscriminate advertising and poster pasting, directing individuals and organisations to use approved billboards and electronic platforms.

However, e never clear whether the situation wey Yakasai raise dey connected to these general advertising regulations or whether the state government specifically restricted ADC from using billboards.

Yakasai said e never expect the kind of oppression wey APC dey face accusations of carrying out in some states to happen in Kano.

He alleged that Governor Yusuf’s administration had stopped ADC from erecting campaign billboards across the state.

Yakasai also reminded the governor that political power no be permanent, saying leaders should remember that power belongs to God and political positions fit change with time.

He further referred to Governor Yusuf’s previous political experiences, saying some of the people the governor had accused of oppression in the past are now under his authority.

Yakasai therefore called on political leaders to exercise restraint and avoid actions wey fit be interpreted as an attempt to suppress opposition voices.

As of press time, the Kano State Government had not responded to the allegation. The governor’s Director of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, was reportedly unavailable for comment.
