2027 Election: INEC Set October 10 To Release Final List Of Gov, Assembly Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, don announce Saturday, October 10, 2026, as the date wey e go publish the final list of candidates wey go contest the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, reveal the date during the commission’s World Press Conference for Abuja on Tuesday. The electoral body later confirm the information through a post on X, saying the publication na important step as preparations for the 2027 general elections dey gather momentum.

According to INEC, 21 out of the 22 registered political parties don submit candidates for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections. The political parties submit a total of 936 governorship and deputy governorship candidates, while 9,692 candidates dey contest different State House of Assembly seats across the country.

The commission explain say e don earlier publish the personal details of all the candidates wey political parties nominate, as required under the 2027 electoral timetable. The final list wey go come out on October 10 go take account of any withdrawals, substitutions and other changes wey happen during the nomination process.

INEC also give update on preparations for other parts of the 2027 election. The commission say 18 political parties submit a total of 36 presidential and vice-presidential candidates, while INEC don already publish the final list of National Assembly candidates on September 12, 2026.
