BABACHIR LAWAL: NA ME DRAG PETER OBI, CONVINCE KWANKWASO TO JOIN ADC
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, don reveal say e play major role in bringing former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, into the African Democratic Congress, ADC, ahead of the 2027 elections.
Lawal make the disclosure during interview with Arise Television, where e explain say e attend almost every meeting of the ADC coalition and was among the people wey helped build the coalition from the beginning.
According to am, Peter Obi initially dey move in and out of the discussions, but Lawal say na him eventually “dragged” Obi into the ADC and convinced am to commit himself to the party.
Lawal also claim say e was among those wey convinced former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the ADC. But according to am, Kwankwaso dey worried about the presence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar inside the coalition and feared say nothing good fit come out of the arrangement if Atiku remain there.

Lawal say he was one of the founding figures behind the ADC coalition formed on July 2, 2025, which later produced former Senate President David Mark as national chairman.
However, the political arrangement later change after Atiku emerged as the ADC presidential candidate. Lawal alleged that the party’s primary election was massively rigged and subsequently left the ADC.
The former SGF has now joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, where e says e dey support Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates respectively.
His latest comments don again bring attention to the political negotiations, alliances and movements among opposition figures as different groups continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
